Draw a Pig

Check out this fun personality test. Thanks Amber!

School was great today. I didn't have a plan from the teacher I subbed for so I found some great mathmatical riddles to solve with the classes. They really got into it and we all laughed. I went to talk with Marilyn Jones, the Discrete math teacher. She has a great program in place yet will have to leave it at the end of this school year. I am considering taking over her class next year. Yes, I will continue down this path for a while to test my interest level. So far, I like the idea of teaching a course that problem solves through logic and hands on artistic activities. I am going to one of her workshops on the 17th and if I am still intrigued it is my plan to attend a 3 week workshop in Discrete math this summer at Rutgers University in N.J..

Last night's private party after the art opening reception was a blast! Not in the adolescent drink till you drop kind of blast but in the grown up art scene kind of blast. A wide variety of friendly people there with very interesting lives. I was honored to have been invited and feel a new joy making connections with kindred spirits; writers, artists, social innovators, world travelers, entreprenuers and humanitarians. Peddling my cruiser home under a clear starry night I threw my head back and laughed out loud with amazement. "All my life I've been a bride married to amazement and a groom taking the world into my arms." -Mary Oliver. My sentiments exactly Mary....

words to live by

At Last - Neko Case
I can say that I've lived here
In honor and danger
But I'm just an animal
And cannot explain a life
Down this chain of days
I wish to stay among
My people
Having chosen
So defined
And if death should smell my breathing
As it passes beneath my window
Let it lead me trembling, trembling
I own every bell that tolls me

A Widow's Toast - Neko Case

Specters move like pilot flames
Their widow’s toast
It's Saint-Angel
Better times collide with now

The tears were warm
I feel them still
Their heat to vapor and disperse
And cloud our eyes with weary glaze

You raise your glass and may exclaim
"I’ll put my hands on the truth, by God!"
But it’s faster, love, than you and me
Faster than the speed of gravity
That's how it catches you from falling
And how it always, always, always slips away

Specters move like pilot flames
Their widow’s toast
It's Saint-Angel
And better times collide with now
And better times
And better times are coming still

My World

April 4 2006. I'm home today. No school for this piddler. What am I doing with myself lately that would constitute a life worth living? Growing sprouts, eating lots of sliced vine ripened tomatoes with avocado, thinly sliced (small) onions, basil and Umi Boshi Plum vinegar drizzled on top (excellent flavors by the way, try it!). As for how I spend my love of the outdoors that involves walks with the dogs on the beach, biking all over this little island and sailing small boats; laser, sunfish, opti, 420 and a JY15. Racing has moved into the spot light for me recently. Another part of my life in the spot light is my art. I have been putting together found objects into assemblages I call "Awesome Blaj". They are mostly pieces of debri washed up from flooding during hurricanes. I find them on my walks with the dogs to Little Hammaca park. Nella is under my chair right now and the weather outside today is perfect. The birds are really happy, making me wish I was one. My new hammock is the latest love of my life; made of parachute material...luxurious! My first mission upon waking is to find my way to this hammock on the porch, nestle myself in "facing the sunrise" pose and then meditate while soaking up the good vibrations. Why can't life be like this everyday? It is the coziest thing I've purchased for myself since my feather pillow. Even better, I take my feather pillow with me for the sunrise celebration! One day I hope to take both to the beach and show them a good time between the coconut palms. rrrrrrrrr. For money and how I spend the rest of my time, I substitute teach at Key West High. It's the kids I enjoy; while giving me a steady income to survive in this civilized society I find myself somewhat trapped by.

what are you looking at?

Her grandbabies Zachary, Marshall and Tyler. Marshall is the one with fur. He doesn't know it, but he was adopted. Wish I had a picture of their mom, my cousin Amber. You would see how much they all resemble each other. Same smiles!

This time it's their dad Tony in the middle! And Tyler is just a little duderdot.
